Roofing Project Time: Summer vs. Winter

Roofing: Summer vs. Winter

There is a lot of skepticism concerning when it’s the right time to replace your roof. We understand that replacing your roof takes money and planning, so we know that you aren’t always going to be able to do it at the time (when it’s expected by others) that roof replacement should be done.

Many people believe that summer is the right time to do your roofing replacement, mainly because of the temperature, but you can do it during the winter too. That’s why we’ll give you some brief information on both of the seasons and what they entail when it comes to roof replacement.

Summertime Roofing Project

This is actually the busiest time of the year for most roofing companies. Lots of people are rushing or have already pre-scheduled their roofing projects to be done in the summer months. They prefer the dry, warm temperature to have their roofing work done.

One setback to roofing in the summer is the fragility of the shingles at this time. If roofers are not careful or gentle, they can damage the shingles with their nail guns, because the nails can bust through them really easily. Roofers should also be particularly careful about walking on the shingled roof at this time too.

If you opt to have your roofing done in the summer months, you have to make sure and schedule your project with the contractors early enough, not now-for-now, because at that point, their list of things to do may already be filled up.

Wintertime Roofing Project

Roofers don’t have very busy schedules during the winter, so home owners are pretty much free to choose from a wide range of different roofing contractors.

Prices for roofing materials are much cheaper in the winter and manufacturers don’t change their warranty on asphalt composite shingles, because of the temperature – the warranty stays exactly the same as it would for any other season in the year.

Another good thing is that new shingles must undergo thermal sealing – this may take days or weeks, when the temperatures are 40 degrees Fahrenheit or more.
